  • New Tax Breaks to Aid Workers By: Bruce Schlegel
    New tax credits will aid many working class people in 2009.  On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvest Act of 2009 (ARRA) into law.  The changes include a new tax credit of $400 for workers who earn $75,000 or less, or $800 for married workers who file joint tax returns and earn $150,000 or less; a tax credit of up to $8,000 for first time home buyers; and a new sales tax deduction for persons who buy a new car, light truck, motorcycle or motor home.  The tax breaks are intended to boost the economy by putting more money in the pockets of working people.   • Legal Aid of Arkansas to help Low-Income and ESL Taxpayers
    Fayetteville, Arkansas – January 16, 2008 – Legal Aid of Arkansas (LAA) announced today that it will be educating taxpayers in Northwest Arkansas about their federal taxpayer rights and responsibilities through its new Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC).  The clinic is specifically targeted to English as Second Language (ESL) taxpayers.  Legal Aid of Arkansas representatives will provide one-on-one counseling and   present workshops on tax topics at locations in Washington, Benton, Sebastian, Carroll and Crawford counties.     You must file a file a Federal income tax return on or before April 15, 2008 if your income is above a certain level. The amount varies depending on filing status, age and the type of income you receive.  The same holds true for Arkansas Individual Income Tax.
